"Deyna" - Description

A 37-minute documentary film, based on the life of the most outstanding Polish footballer, was made thanks to the Special Award received at VII Polish Independent Documentary Film Festival NURT (2001) by the filmmakers of the documentary series "Signes" produced by EUREKA MEDIA (among others: Beata Dzianowicz and Dariusz Szymura).

The original idea of the screenplay came from Milena Laur, a student at "Philology for Media", Faculty of Polish Studies at University of Warsaw, who had written the film project as an exam paper for the film criticism classes conducted by Krzysztof Kopczyński.

The film shows archival materials and interviews with the footballer family, his football partners, coaches, sport activists and spectators. The film also shows places related to Deyna's life: his family house in Starograd Gdański, the Łódź Football Club stadium and the Legia Warsaw Football Club stadium. The film scenes shot in San Diego in California should arouse the most interest. This is where Deyna had spent the last, tragic years of his life and was killed in a car accident in September 1989.

The filmmakers wanted to present the main character not only as a great sports star but also as a man who was faced with numerous problems.
