Biography
Krzysztof Kopczyński was born in 1959 in Warsaw. Doctor of humanities with postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in Film Arts, Associate Professor at the University of Warsaw, documentary film director and producer. Consultant and coach in film.
As a film director he is an author of documentaries ,,Stone Silence” (2007, screened in 40 countries) and “The Dybbuk: A Tale of Wandering Souls” (2015, 18 countries). As a film producer, he owns the company Eureka Media, which was established in 1997. He has produced more than 50 movies, screened worldwide on almost 400 festivals in 70 countries. His movies have received almost 140 festival awards. Winner of 25 film awards and a member of the European Film Academy, the Polish Film Academy the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Polish Society for Film and Media Studies.
He has published books and articles about nineteenth-century and contemporary Polish culture, film and media. He works at the Institute of Applied Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw. Main interest: Polish film, documentary film, Romanticism, philosophy of the film, film and media literacy.
1980-1981 chairman of Students Self-government of Faculty of Polish Studies UW and editor of ,,Free Voice”(,,Głos Wolny”) magazine for students. He graduated in 1983 from the Faculty of Polish Studies, and on 1993 he received his PhD. 1984-89 he worked as an editor in the clandestine publishing house CDN. 1989 co-founder and publisher of "Ex Libris" monthly magazine. 1992-94 Director General of Aid for Polish Libraries Foundation. 2007-2011 expert of the Polish Film Institute, 2011-2014 expert of Masovian Film Fund. In 2011 he partcipated in the Screen Leaders of EU training (Ireland). As a jury member he works in Batumi, Chicago, Kiev, Leipzig, Łódź, Warszawa and Wrocław.
