"Stone Silence" Awarded
2007-11-05
The documentary film "Stone Silence" about a 25-year old woman suspected and murdered for adultery in Afghanistan on April 2005, has received the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 50th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film - DOK Leipzig on the 3rd of November 2007.
In its judgment the jury stated:
"Has Amina, a married woman, been stoned for adultery in an Afghan village? The fascinating pictures of the movie are taking the viewer through a labyrinth of truths and lies, of unspoken words and contradictions, where the village community tries to evade the pressure exerted by the law, religion, tradition and human feelings. In an exciting search for the truth, the film manages to go far beyond the local context and, in a provocative way, puts the old biblical words to the test: “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."
"Stone Silence" is Krzysztof Kopczyński’s debut as a director. The cinematographers of the film are Jacek Petrycki and Hanna Polak, the sound was done by Jarosław Roszyk and Jafar Panahi, edited by Anna Dymek, the music was written by Krzysztof Knittel, recorded by Marcin Kijo, the production was managed by Dorota Rozowska. The film was co-produced by Eureka Media, TVP S.A. and Society Films, supported by The Polish Script Agency and the Polish Film Institute.
